Behind “If You Care For Me”
This one started with wine and an honest conversation.
Ricardo and I were sitting around, the way we often do, and we started talking about past experiences. The kind where you're never quite sure where you stand but you still stood there waiting.
You know the type. Someone who shows up just enough to keep you hoping. A text out of nowhere. A moment of warmth. And then nothing, until they need something again. Breadcrumbs - yes, that’s the exact word we used.
We've both been there. Most people have, I think. That feeling of chasing someone who never quite chooses you back but never fully lets you go either. You keep showing up, keep offering more of yourself, because maybe this time will be different.
It rarely is.
“We’re stuck on different pages, different genres, different books”
"If You Care For Me" came out of sitting with that. The wanting. The waiting. The way you can know, logically, that something isn't working, and still find yourself reaching for it anyway.
Writing it was a bit of an unburdening, honestly. Giving words to something that had just lived quietly in the background for a long time. There's something about putting a feeling into a song that makes it feel less like it has power over you.
I hope when you hear it, you recognize something in it. Not because I want you to feel that particular ache again but because there's something quietly reassuring about realizing you weren't alone in it.
That one wasn't just mine. That one belongs to a lot of us.
